Underglaze Heat Pattern on Speckled Clay

This piece was thrown by me on a pottery wheel using speckled clay. Once partially dry, the piece was trimmed and lines carved by hand on the wheel. After the initial bisque firing, five different colors of underglaze were applied by sponging three layers of each color. Once dry, the surface was sanded to reveal the different layers and gradients of color. This is a meticulous and time-consuming process, but it creates amazing effects!
