Rising Jar (6.75 in / 17 cm tall)
Jar - White Glaze on Speckled Clay
6.75 in (17 cm) tall
This piece was thrown by me on a pottery wheel using a speckled clay (though the speckles don't appear until the final firing). After the initial bisque firing (so that the piece can be handled without breaking) I apply a pattern with thin detailing tape over many hours. Layers of a while glaze are then brushed, the tape removed, another round of cleanup, and then the final firing to over 2,000 degrees F (1,090 C). The final firing makes the piece water tight, food and dishwasher safe (though I would wash this piece by hand if possible.
For you lid connoisseurs - it has a tiny bit of wiggle when you ...well ...wiggle it.
